My first post!

October 9, 2009

Hello everyone!

My name is Barb and as the title of my blog indicates, I am a member of AARP, and loving life.  Actually, I am in the process of finishing my master of science in Teaching & Learning – Differentiated Instruction at the University of St. Francis and am creating this blog as part of my final course’s assignment.

I work at USF as a Graduate Advisor and Grant’s Administrator full time and get to use math daily in my job.  The course I am taking, Teaching Algebra to Middle School Students, is one that I am taking to round out my teaching background.  But I am a math fiend at heart.  My Dad was a rocket scientist in Cape Canaveral, FL and he passed his love of math on to me many years ago.  I earned a B.S. in Mathematics in 1981 and actually did not get certified to teach until I moved to Illinois in 1994.  I loved teaching math in the elementary 4th & 5th grades and helping my students explore the math in their world.  This course is a natural fit for extending my teaching skills into the middle school levels, although I have been tutoring middle school and high school students in math for over 10 years.

Keep tuned for further postings regarding math vocabulary and other math topics!

Barb :)

  2. Barb,
Your blog is “fabulous”. I hope that as I struggle through this that my technological skills will improve.
